About Lécia Vicente

Lécia is currently a Visiting Professor of Law at the University of Camerino in Italy, where she utilizes the town of Camerino as a case study for an infrastructural approach to law. She is also the Founder and Managing Director of the Global Law Observatory for Business (GLOB), which has offices in the United States and Europe. Lécia has held several advisory roles within the United Nations system and was previously the Henry Plauché Dart Endowed Assistant Professor of Law at LSU Law Center. She specializes in business and comparative law, and her expertise has been integral to various research projects at the University of Camerino, the Institute of Social Sciences at the University of Lisbon (ICS-UL), and the UC Berkeley School of Law.

Before joining LSU Law, she was an affiliate with Fordham Corporate Law Center at the Fordham University School of Law, a postdoctoral research associate and lecturer at the University of Illinois, and a researcher at the European University Institute in Florence, Italy.

Vicente earned her Ph.D. and LL.M. in Comparative, European, and International Laws from the European University Institute, her postdoc from the University of Illinois Gies College of Business at Urbana-Champaign, and her LL.B. from the Catholic University of Portugal, where she graduated first in her class, summa cum laude.

She practiced law at international law firms, focusing on corporate, contract, real estate, and civil procedure laws in Portugal and other Lusophone countries such as Angola, Mozambique, and Brazil. She held visiting research positions at the Commercial Law Department of the Faculty of Law of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, the University of Illinois College of Law, the Fordham University Law School, the Institute of International Economic Law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Helsinki, and the Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Lisbon.

In 2019, she was a Delegate to the 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly as Advisor to the Secretary of State for External Relations of Angola. In 2016, she was an Advisor and Head of the Delegation of the African Union at the United Nations High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development under the auspices of the United Nations Economic and Social Council. She was also an advisor to the African Union at the United Nations Sustainable Development Summit for the adoption of the Post-2015 development agenda.

Her scholarship has been published or is forthcoming with Springer, Cambridge University Press, Wolters Kluwer, Hart Publishing, Intersentia, and Oxford University Press. Additionally, her work has been published in law reviews in the United States. She regularly speaks at academic events in the United States, Canada, Europe, and Brazil.

In addition to her academic and professional qualifications, she has diverse experiences and achievements that highlight her well-rounded character and dedication to excellence. As a track and field athlete specializing in short-distance sprints, she set an indoor record for the 60 meters, demonstrating her commitment to discipline, perseverance, and peak performance.
